Guidelines for AI Use

GUIDELINES FOR AI USE

The Revista de Direito Contemporâneo UNIDEP (Journal of Contemporary Law UNIDEP) adopts the following guidelines for the use of Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) in the academic writing of manuscripts sent to this journal for possible publication.

These guidelines, with the appropriate adaptations carried out by our Editorial Board, are strongly inspired by those adopted by national and international journals representing best editorial practices, in particular the Revista do Instituto GeoGebra Internacional de São Paulo (IGISP) and Elsevier journals, as well as Taylor&Francis recommendations.

1 Objective

Ensure ethical, transparent and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence tools (Generative AI) in the preparation of manuscripts, maintaining the integrity of authorship and academic quality.

2 Scope of application

Applies to all authors who submit manuscripts to the journal, as of February 1, 2026, during the process of preparation and textual revision.

3 Permitted use (with human supervision)

  • Improved clarity, cohesion and linguistic correction of the text;
  • Stylistic suggestions or textual restructuring;
  • Assistance in the translation or first draft of the text or abstract;
  • Generation of outline structure (outline), as long as revised and validated by the authors.

4 Prohibited use

  • Automatic production of fundamental content of the text, such as theoretical arguments, data analysis or conclusions;
  • Generation of data or figures not verified or artificially manufactured/manipulated, altering even partially the reality depicted;
  • List AI tools as author or co-author of the manuscript (because they cannot take responsibility for the content).

5 Responsibility and Review

  • Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality and integrity of the manuscript, including the parts generated or assisted by IA;
  • Must verify quotes, ideas, factual statements or references generated by AI and correct any error, bias or inconsistency.

6 Mandatory Declaration of AI Use

By submitting the manuscript, under their sole civil and criminal responsibility, the authors declare knowledge and complete agreement with the provisions of these Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence, ensuring that, if they have used such tools, have been limited to the permitted use, being that all the content generated has been reviewed by them, maintaining full and exclusive responsibility for the final content.

7 Consequences of Misuse

Submissions containing undisclosed use or improper use of AI (e.g., unreviewed or fabricated content) may be rejected, reviewed or editorially investigated.

8 Policy for Reviewers

  • Do not upload manuscripts or unpublished proposals (including files and images) into AI tools for analysis, summary or any other content purpose.
  • Restricted use only to improve the clarity and linguistic correctness of review comments;
  • Any excerpt generated by the AI must be reviewed and fully approved by the reviewer;
  • The reviewer retains full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity and impartiality of their opinion, even when using AI for text refinement.

9 Policy for Editors

  • Do not submit unpublished manuscripts, associated files, images or any confidential information to AI tools;
  • Avoid risks of violation of proprietary rights and breaches of confidentiality arising from the use of AI in unpublished content.
