Abstract

Introduction: A mucocele is a benign, cystic lesion commonly found in the minor salivary glands of the oral cavity. It arises from the accumulation of mucus following the rupture of a salivary duct and subsequent leakage into adjacent tissues. Objectives: To report a case of surgical excision of a mucocele in a child. Case Report: A 9-year-old female patient presented with a lesion on the lower labial mucosa for approximately five months. Upon examination, a single, bubble-like, asymptomatic lesion was observed, approximately one centimeter in size, firm, and with a smooth surface. The presumptive diagnosis was mucocele, and surgical excision was indicated. The procedure was performed under local anesthesia, with incision, careful dissection, and complete removal of the lesion, followed by simple suturing. The specimen was sent for histopathological analysis, which confirmed mucus extravasation. The postoperative period was uneventful. Conclusion: The complete removal of the mucocele and the accessory glands, along with the absence of recurrence, characterized the successful management of the case.
