Objective: To report the experience of data collection for a TCC, carried out with women deprived of liberty in a Prison Unit in the North of Minas Gerais, focusing on the evaluation of factors related to the health, well-being and mental health. Methods: The research was conducted between May and June 2024 by medical students, supervised by professors, using validated questionnaires. The study followed ethical standards, with informed consent from the participants. Results: Data collection highlighted the urgent need for interventions in the mental health of inmates, mainly on anxiety, depression and hopelessness. Interaction with the participants provided a deeper understanding of the vulnerabilities faced in prison, highlighting the importance of humanized care. Conclusion: The research contributed to the training of students, in addition to highlighting the importance of public health policies aimed at women in the penitentiary system, promoting comprehensive health care and improving their social reintegration.
