Objectives: to report the experience of medical students in using recreational activities in medical care in a pediatric hospital. Methods: the extension action carried out in September 2024 was based on playful activities designed to transform the hospital environment and promote care for children and their families. Results: the role played by the team was crucial when using playful activities as a tool to complement the services offered by health professionals at the hospital. This approach facilitated the performance of imaging exams and other medical interventions, promoting children's cooperation and providing a feeling safety during procedures. Conclusion: the development of this action with children in the hospital environment allowed academics to witness the behavioral benefits of recreational activities in the pediatric area, playful practice as a therapeutic tool reduces hospital trauma, causing anxiety and emotional exhaustion for patients and their families.
